Sustainable Action Awards
The Sustainable Action Awards recognize individuals and groups who make a positive impact at the University of Toronto through innovative, sustainable practices.
The awards celebrate these contributions and inspire sustainable action on and off campus, and are part of U of T’s goal of embedding sustainability in all it does and becoming a model of sustainability worldwide.
About the Sustainable Action Awards
How to nominate someone for a Sustainable Action Award
Are you or someone you know working hard to advance sustainability on and off–campus? You can self-nominate and nominate an individual or a group for a tri-campus Sustainable Action Award.
We accept applications from mid-January to early February every year and host our award ceremony every March.
When the application period is open, complete the nomination form. Late nominations will not be accepted.
Questions? Feel free to email [email protected].
Sustainable Action Award eligibility criteria
Nominees for the staff, student, and faculty categories must be attending or employed at any of U of T’s three campuses at the time of nomination. This is a tri-campus award. Full-time staff of the Sustainability Offices are not eligible.
You can self-nominate or nominate others for an award in the following categories:
- Individual student (full or part-time)
- Student club (recognized by U of T) or group (two or more individuals)
- Staff (individual or group, appointed or casual)
- Faculty (individual or group, full- or part-time)
How Sustainable Action Award winners are selected
Award winners are selected by a tri-campus panel.
Winners are chosen based on the measurable and positive contributions made to advancing sustainability both on campus and in the wider community. Nominees are scored on the depth and breadth of these contributions, and on contributions across the social, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability.
How Sustainable Action Award recipients are recognized
Winners in each category receive a $200 gift card. Group winners receive a single gift card. There is one award recipient per category on each campus, provided the minimum score requirement is met. In cases where no nominee on a campus reaches the required score, that category may go unawarded for that campus.
